Our History

BIOTA is an environmental consultancy company offering solutions in the areas of biodiversity and aquatic ecology studies in Portugal, Spain, Mozambique, Angola, Malawi, Namibia and Algeria, we have the necessary experience to present our services to a wide range of sectors and geographies.

Our core and main areas of expertise bring together services such as Environmental Assessment and Mitigation and Compensatory Measures implementation, namely in offsetting within the Mitigation Hierarchy. We also present a range of competencies in various themes such as Ecological and Environmental Monitoring, Scientific and Technical Advisory Services in Biology and Ecology, Science Communication Services, and Technical and Scientific Training and Capacity Building. Our project portfolio also involves Aquatic Systems Monitoring Services (Ecological Water Quality, Ecological Flow Studies, Hydromorphological Characterization), Classified and Protected Areas Management Plans, Invasive Species Management Plans, Biodiversity Communication (including events and production of educational materials), IT (research in innovation and new technologies applied to biodiversity studies) and Management and Planning in biodiversity conservation.

We believe that communication is key to achieve a sustainable future. BIOTA works on a broad range of biodiversity communication services, from the production of biodiversity communication plans and diverse products and materials, to the planning and organization of technical and scientific events. The technical products BIOTA develops include nature and field guides, distribution atlas, red books, and more specific tailored publications, whenever requested. These can be produced for specific a public; for instance, alone or in partnership, BIOTA provides services and products to develop several educational activities, from content production to activity planning and implementation.

BIOTA also creates educational kits related to biology, ecology and environmental science. The kits are designed to engage students, young children and their families in learning about biodiversity through hands-on activities such as puzzles, memory games, cards, workbooks, guides and more. The games are designed for young children, with age-appropriate learning in mind.
